Q6600 G0 and Ratio 9 problem

Thread Starter
Hi all

I have a bit of and odd one I have been playing around with oc this thing for 2 weeks now .

and to cut a long story short I can get this to 8 x 422 FSB with 333mhz strap on 1.35vcore .
with a 2 hour run on occt & then 24 hour run on prime temps hardly get above 63c

now with the 9 ratio put in to the equation I can hardly get it stable above a 355 FSB with 333 strap it will run with 1.375 vcore (vid 1.2875) at this bus with temps of 65-67c for 2 hour occt
anything above this fsb crashes occt within 5 mins .
I have tried vcores upto 1.45 with no luck temps hit about 73c tjunction

it is almost as though as soon as core 2 gets near 70c junction temp it causes a reboot .

I have very few 'occt' error codes but the norm is a reboot .

has anybody else seen this ??

is there anybody with a asus P5k type board with a stable 9 ration clock in the 370's feb who would list all theri advanced settings

I have played around with the gtl references on the cpu but to me they don't make sense it is almost like they aren't high enough in the ASUS bios

Maybe that fsb is within the fsb hole things that people speak of. I'll find a link to the info for you.

I would be so happy if you found it, I have the same bad problems as well .

Right now 3.2Ghz 8x400, hopefully 9x400 when I get my second fan on Scythe Infinity this week/next

Hi all

another odd thing I have spotted is that running occt on a 8 multiplier is that core 1&2 are 4-5c hotter than cores 3&4

and when running a 9 multiplier core 1& 2 are only 1-2c hotter than 3&4 ................

not sure why that would be ,
anybody ???

Well, when you're running the 9 multiplier your FSB is lower than when you run the 8 multiplier, thus generating less heat.

............... what that means? how exactly the FSB can be lower with higher ratio?
Multi x FSB = Speed
ex.
9 multi x 333 fsb = 3000
8 multi x 333 fsb = 2,600

heat is generated when you up the Vcore mostly, even sometimes increases a bit when OC without move volts.
is normal have 2-7 degrees diference between cores, dont freak out

Killbot, try to up a notch or 2 your NB Volt, mems volt

You said you're in the 333 strap. Have you tried changing strap?

HI
thanks for your responces

I am at 1.55v on my N bridge already
and I am at stock 1.8v on my memory as it is rate to 1600mhz at 1.8v so I am not overclocking that , also memtest runs 100% pass right upto 9x400fsb.

I did play around with the strap but it never seemed to make much difference
if any
can anybody tell me what the straphas an effect on ??

the vid on this chip is 1.2875v and it seems to get pretty hot under load

i.e on 1.40vcore I am upto 70-72c Tjunction although tcase is 59c.

the whole cpu doesn't seem stable at anyhting over 68c no matter what vcore I throw at it .

I am soon going to water cooling to see if that makes any difference

High dude I have set to 1.45vcore and 400 strap and running at 380 x 9 giving me 3.42 ghz

it ran through occt for 2 hours at about 71c with an ambient of 15c

trying prime95 on it for 12 hours

I also put the gtl ref on the north bridge to 0.67x vcore
I have left the memory at 1.85v
but this is the most stable I have had it above 375 ever

looks like it might be the strap and gtl on the north bridge

roll on my water cooling

vdrop is down to 1.44 maybe 1.43v
but there is an option in the bios to impprove vdrop over the intel spec and I have that selected
