The only argument I will make against your line of reasoning is that nVidia, and all hardware manufacturers, are clued in and engaged in discussion about future Windows direction years ahead of time. They used to do this at the WinHEC conference, I don't know if that's still how it's done. But nVidia cannot claim to be losing millions of dollars of investment unless they basically ignored the direction that they were told Windows/DirectX was going to move.

Asking questions in article titles, like "Did Nvidia break....?," instead of outright claiming "Nvidia broke...," sets off my internal BS alarms. The use of quotes on "break" is also questionable. It might just be dramatic flare, but it is not proper Journalism. I know; it's the internet and I'm asking too much here, but this is the kind of stuff partisan hacks, masquerading as serious news journalists, engage in.

Also, how did Nvidia "break" DX10.1? If they influanced devs to no support it, fine (well, not fine, but yeah), but I'm note sure that counts as "breaking" anything. As far as I know DX10.1 still runs fine, just isn't supported in AC.

I'm just gonna be contrarian from the general feel of this thread and shift some of the scorn onto Ubisoft. AC isn't the worst port of a game (a distinction Ubisoft, however, holds with another title) to the PC but it is far from perfect, and only clumsily manages adequate. DX10.1 support doesn't really add much to an already sub-standard PC game. If it were a better PC game, then I'd have more sympathy for those screaming foul; but as is I just can't get worked up about ACPC.

And I'm sure there's some way to blame M$ for all this as well, but I've lost the will.

Not exactly, Intel pays people to not buy AMD products. nVidia just pays them to make nVidia's products better and AMD's worse.

Screw nvidia. I was on the fence about getting a single GTX280 or dual 4870X2s... but I have made up my mind. Regardless of whether the GTX280 is faster or not, I will get the dual 4870X2s.

I would assume that if ATI had any SOLID proof that all this did take place it would have taken Nvidia to court. Its the same thing intel is doing as u said... Its paying game developers to create games on their harder instead of existing technology.

You can't however go to court with speculation only!

I must disagree with your writing style arguments. Using quotation marks around a word signifies that the word is an approximation of what has actually taken place. Furthermore, until Nvidia actually admits they forced Ubisoft to take out the DX10.1 support, any author would have no choice but to write in the subjunctive I format, which alleges things and does not accuse. In other words, what you claim makes this article poor is actually what makes it crediblly written. In fact, looking at all of your arguments, the majority seem to be geared towards defending Nvidia regardless of whether or not doing so is justifiable.

I'm glad I returned my 9800gtx. I'm using my old G80 right now and probably will switch to ATi later this summer. That's if Nvidia doesn't straighten out.
