What happened is that Comcast purchased the cable plant in your area from Time Warner and now operate it under their wing. Time Warner and Comcast are completely different companies.

90% chance that won't happen.

It keeps looking more and more like the US's internet connection is about to go down the drain. As if we weren't behind enough.

I hate to say it but we really need to try some alternative approaches to certain things in the U.S. This is just another thing that has me scratching my head. I understand that profits are what keep a company running but even if it works against the greater good? The internet is a constantly growing thing and is becoming a bigger part of the average person's life. We should be doing everything within reason to make sure it's infrastructure grows!

Oh wait better yet! Let's cap the bandwidth to squeeze the profits a little more. We can keep using our sub-standard (relative to European) hardware much, much longer! Shame on you Time Warner!

If you're with TW, call them up, send them a letter, do what you have to do. Cancel services and put the word out if you feel it necessary. All it takes is for Time Warner to somehow prove that this is a viable option for maximizing profit and soon you will see others jumping on the bandwagon.

Damn, this might be like telephones/cellphones then....limited minutes in a plan and extra charge for minutes.

I seriously doubt that happening in the near future. Considering Verizon has nearly unlimited bandwidth to play with and they are still trying to bring in lots of customers they will keep people happy until they get more people connected. I have been extremely impressed with their FiOS system as a whole (had it since last fall at home) and really like some of the included items in the bundle.
They will end up blowing the cable companies out of the water with the ability to use the MoCA setup (fiber->ethernet->coax) for more later on.
