cant mount heatsink

i have a micron millenia gs and it has two processor slots i paid six dollars for the machine and it is my favorite computer now , i only have a 800 mhz slot a processor in it but i want to put one of my 1 ghz processors in it the problem is i cant mount the heat sink because the tabs that the metal thing that locks it down bend and i cant get it to stay , are there any other ways to mount the heatsink?

If you were to get a bolt through kit from thermalright possible...

You can fill in your system specs to help us some more with understanding what you're dealing with

There are probably no holes around the CPU socket in the case of a board that old.

Anyway, marcus, if the clips are intact it should not be that hard to mount. Clip one side down first, then use a flat head screw driver to clamp down the other end. One end may have an area specifically for this purpose. If not, jusr forcing it down with your finger should work.

Edit: whoops I see that you said SLOT A. That may complicate things a bit (the heatsink doesn't mount to the board/slot at all, just to the PCB the processor is on. Still, the process with the clips should at least be similar.

If you remove the casing from the processor, there are ways to mound certain bolt through heatsinks, but you must use one made for slot A chips.

the slot a slot is fine i am talking about the regualr slot and the tab is hanging on by a thread of plastic and yes i did say six dollars i have a basement full of computers that the uni got rid of for super cheap but anyways there are no holes to bolt anything just the tabs that are built onto were the processor goes
