IDEA: How to know, if there's a leak WITHOUT checking it (manually) ?

Hello there,

Leaks are the most problematic thing in water cooling loops - they can brake everything (from your sound card, through graphics card to CPU even).

I've just realised how we can know that there's a leak in your loop, without everyday manual checking.

Solution: Add some perfumes (or any other liquid, which gives a stron smell) to your coolant!

So what ? So if there's a leak, you can SMELL IT.

PS: I think that perfumes can't really brake your metal parts, pump or somthing else. If I'm wrong, tell me

PS2: I can't check this, since I don't have (yet) a w/c system

I discovered a leak in my loop when I had my room lights turned off.

UV reactive coolant + UV light = profit.

I have pollen allergies, so 2 months a year I'd be boned. Other than that it isn't too bad, just that it isn't as unnoticeable as a glowing UV puddle in your case.

I discovered i had a leak when it left 7months worth of build up on my gPU without me even noticing.

That is 7 month old black UV coolant that has turned into tar

I could see one problem with this idea. Every time you smell anything remotely perfume-like, you'll go into "OMG THERE'S A LEAK!!" mode.

Yeah, so that's why I wrote "or any other liquid, which gives a strong smell"

Thats actually how most mechanic shops leak test A/C systems. I was going to say this. Most of the WC guys I see (Im not one, lol) use UV lights + dye. It's simple to see a puddle or leak under the UV.

But what if you'r rig is under the desk, or (whats more possible) don't have a side window ?
