q6600 4.0ghz. possible?

Thread Starter
Hello.

I am trying to see if i can hit 4.0 ghz on my q6600.

VID 1.3000

BIOS settings:
CPU Config:
Disable C1E State
Disable Execute Disable Bit
Disable Virtualization Technology

Standard CMOS:
Disable 1.44 Floppy (Unless you actually have one and need it for RAID drivers)

Advanced:
Disable HPET

Voltages:
Memory 2.1 V

CPU Voltage:
1.48125

Other voltages:
CPU FSB: 1.4v
Nforce SPP: 1.4v
Nforce MCP: 1.525v
HT Nforce SPP: 1.25V

FSB/Memory:

Memory clock mode Linked & Synchronous
FSB/QDR: Set to 1600 (400 FSB)
For cpu multiplier 9x.

I am adding a water loop (shipped from Cyber Druid today) in a few days. The following parts will be added:

Thermochill PA120.3 with 6 86.5cfm Panaflo fans and 2 shrouds.
MCP 655 Vario pump
Fuzion CPu block
waterfall res

My temps right now at 3.6 are 38 degree.

Is it possible? I feel like it is not, unless i want to significantly degrade the life-span of my q6600, but maybe you guys can see a way.

Thanks.

IMO it depends on how lucky u got when u got ur chip. just cuz its a G0 revision doesnt mean it'll hit 4.0ghz. You can always try and see if it'll make it. but dont get ur hopes up.

it is not necessarily your Vid that determines your OC (although it is a good indication). I had a Q6600 with 1.25v Vid and it couldnt even reach 3.6GHz under 1.5v vcore. People who I have seen reaching 4.0GHz with the Q6600 have had really low vcores for sure. They are also able to run 3.6GHz with less then 1.38v vcore. It all depends on how well the CPU scales with voltage. I would say with your current overclock of 3.6GHz, and the current vcore you are running, it will probably not happen.

My Q6700 has a 1.225v Vid and runs 3.8GHz at 1.44v vcore. and 3.9GHz with 1.5v vcore. But I would need considerably more for 4.0GHz, and it is not worth it IMO to push it more.

I am another who had high hopes for my Q66, unfortunately it fell a tad short. I cant even get stable @ 3.6 with 1.525v. I can post all the way up to 4.0 but it fails occt in about 5min at anything higher than 3.4, yet 3.4 is rock stable at 1.43v...

Just the chip, I dont htink it has to do with volts or heat, just doesnt like the higher MHz

If you are lucky, maybe 4ghz with 1.6vcore But please dont run that for long! but If you got cooling, why not?^^
