asus vs xfx 790i Ultra? - Page 2

You might want to be cautious on your ram choices. I went through 3 sets of OCZ ram with the 790i board. Apparently OCZ misprogrammed their JEDEC controllers on the DDR3 preventing it from getting required voltage with the board.

Try Corsair or Gskill.

My RAM was $140 and will do just shy of 1600 Mhz stable.

Intel run's cooler and OC's higher.Just dont have SLI.Paying extra to air cool or watercool the north and south bridge isnt fun.Would stear you toward a X48 or a foxcon with a northbridge cooler that work's.Dread looks like a good board but I havent found one yet.

or a DFI x48 they got

The 790i doesn't need extra cooling. They have beefed up the heat pipe system over the 780i (I know as I've owned both).

It does need better than the stock nb fan though (if only because its really loud). An antec spotcool works nicely.

Your sig says you already have one Moozy.
eVga offers better custom service as said on the 1st page... but its personal choice/preferance... for example i go for xfx with graphics and evga with mobo's and corsair for memory... and you only really need a nvidia mobo if your gonna be running sli

depends if your gonna go sli? if not then a x48 would probably be better... if you are or maybe in the future when you wont be replacing the mobo then go 790i
post #18 of 38
and for ddr3 memory if look at the corsair ballistix or dominators
post #19 of 38

heh, i'm tempted to get ballistix, but omg are they expensive. I'm still not sure if I am going to need the SLI or not. If the GT280 comes out before my build thats all I will need imo.

If I dont go SLI and only get a 9800 Gx2 SSC, how long do you think that will last me before I need to upgrade?

They are aimed at completely different users, one is for Sli and Tri Sli the other isn't.
