Need new CPU for HTPC

Thread Starter
I currently have a Pentium Extreme Edition 840 on an Intel D955XBK mobo. Im having issues w/ it running really hot in my HTPC rig. The mobo will support a 65nm CPU up to 1066MHz.

Im looking for ideas for a CPU that runs cool under a load. Air flow is extremely restricted in my case. I have an AC Freezer 7 Pro. I would like a decent C2D or a fast single core. My budget is $200 or less.

Any ideas?

a cheap e2xxx would do the job or a e4xxx would be fine, they run cool, alot cooler than your pentd and if you wanted you could clock them to 3ghz easy.

i second that, or if the price of an e2140 is too much (as i've seen helping my dad shop for a e2xxx series) then you could always get an e1200 (labeled celeron but is the same as a e2xxx series, just lower multi and 1.2 cache)

according to this it won't support the core 2 duo? pentium dual core or w/e.

sad how it so "hot" when you got a billion fans in your case.

Crap! I guess im gonna have to buy a new mobo too.

only half a billion fans and none of them intake towards the CPU.

Maybe ill cut a top vent and mount a 120mm fan to help cool things off. Would a 220mm fan be overkill?

I don't think you can upgrade because the intel page says the extreme edition cpus are the best you can use.
