Best 939 CPU

Thread Starter
As you can see, I have an FX-60 in my rig @ 2.8ghz. Anyone know of a 939 chip that performs better. I want to know:
1) Best 939 CPU stock
2) best 939 CPU O/Ced

there are optys that can clock in at 3ghz... other than oc'ability, the chip u have is on the top...

found this link...

Quote:
AMD's Socket-939 has been the platform of choice almost immediately after its introduction, so it is fitting that the last Socket-939 processor to be released would be the Athlon 64 FX-60.

After today's launch of the FX-60, there will be no faster Socket-939 CPUs produced. Instead, everything else will be Socket-AM2 (the new name for Socket-M2). Next quarter, AMD will launch their Socket-AM2 platform along with AM2 versions of the Athlon 64, Athlon 64 X2 and the FX-62. Given that the AM2 platform adds DDR2 support, it is entirely feasible that the Athlon 64 FX-62 won't receive a clock speed bump over the FX-60 and just use the higher bandwidth memory as justification for the higher model number.

I have to agree with above post.
The FX-60 is the ultimate 939 cpu.

fx-60 is the best because of the unlocked multiplier, but if you want better overclockability, get the opteron 165. The opterons are all great, but the lower the model, the higher the average overclocks (most of the time.)

Woodpigeon, there's really no difference between the FX-60 and the Opterons. They are identical chips(toledo = denmark). Only main difference is the unlocked multiplier on the FX-60. If you had a Opteron 165 or 170 then I would stick with that before going for a FX-60. Besides overclocking with a lock multiplier is just so much more exciting

Good luck!

Yep... the FX-60 might not have been the best performancerice (that title belonged to the opteron 165 and 170 capable of OCing to 3.0+ GHz for a fraction of a price of the higher end FX series), but it's definitely the best performing 939 chip regardless of cost - especially with stock speeds being at 2.6GHz
