TV Qustions i have.

Thread Starter
I'm about to purchase a new 42" up to 52" TV, now i need to know what the "pros" and "cons" are for Rear projection tvs and LCDs and Plasmas and so on, (please do not mention CRT tvs BARF" so anyways i'm looking to spend around 1500-2000$ on one in about 2 weeks time.

Also what would be a good brand to go with?

Only bad thing about rear projection is that they are massive.

Different. I would go with LCD right now, but some people still love plasma. And you can't really go wrong with a Samsung.

go with a lcd or plasma

you have to watch out for burn ins on plasmas
so use a ss to prevent this

Rear projection and LCD are completely different. Rear projection as the name implies produces an image by projecting it onto the screen from a lamp. LCD uses liquid crystals (electrodes) that when voltage is passed through it, it aligns the electrodes to produce the image. i personally love my SXRD TV, which is a Silicon X-tal Reflective Display, same as a LCos display. I have a 60" Sony SXRD and i think i get a phenomenal picture compared to my Sony LCD's. Plasma is also a good choice (the burn-in issue has been resolved). it really depends on what your budget is, and what size/specs you are looking for.

Will list pros and cons in a second

burn in has been pretty low in later model plasmas. Always take a precautionary measure and turn off the TV when not in use. I have played games with static images on plasmas for hours on end, without any noticeable burn-in.

REar Projection:

Pros:

Cost to size, you can get bigger size for the same amount
Can replace lamps

Cons:

Size, in depth
Lamps cost around 200.00 (I only replace them every 2 years)
Specs are usually not as good as LCD or plasma (contrast ratio especially)
