MS OFFICE 2007 help

Thread Starter
hey, im working on a long document, but there are many documents inside that big document. i want to insert other documents in to one document, to make one huge document (master document).

the simple method of copy and paste doesn't want to work because it doesn't copy over all the formatting, page breaks, sections breaks, header and footers, etc etc.

i also tried to insert the documents in to one documents as objects, but it also doesn't copy over all the details.

is there any good way to do this?

I do not have my MOS for 2007, but in 2003 i do not remember a way. (it has been a while) let me look into it. Will post in a few minutes.

ok try this:

Save all documents first. I suggest saving a TEST copy of all documents, just in case. Open the MASTER document, click the location in which you want the other saved document to be located.

Open Explorer, locate the document you want, drag and drop onto the spot in Word you want it.

This will merge the new document into Word, as well as allow you to make changes to the original document and it will update the MASTER form.

Let me know if this is what you needed.

weird. Give me another minute. I will see what else I can do. I have my MOS in 2003, so i am unfamiliar with the changes in 2007.

You are going to need to insert section breaks in order to keep different headers and footers. This will allow you to keep separate formatting schemes but I don't know if it will paste them directly into the new document.

yeah well the other parts of the documents are done, formatting complete and everything else.

i was just hoping for a quick way to merge all the documents together, so i won't have to go back and change all the formatting.

try this:
1. Open one of the going to combine documents, and then save it as another file, and erase all contents inside it.
2. Click Insert option in the Office Fluent Ribbon menu bar.

Insert Option in Office 2007
3. Click on the Down arrow at the right side of Object.
4. Select Text from File… option.

Insert Text from File in Office 2007
5. In the “Insert File” dialog window, select all Word documents that you want to merge and combine into one. To select multiple files, press and hold down “CTRL” key while clicking on the files one by one. If your files in is a series, select the first file on top, press and hold down “SHIFT” key, then click on the last file to select all files in between inclusive.
6. Click on Insert button. If you want to insert the text as link style, click on the “Down arrow” to the right of “Insert” button, and then select Insert as Link.
7. All documents selected now merged and combined into a single document file. Remember to save the file.

That just worked for me.

Here is the link, where I found it:

Doing it that way leaves the original text in the original file. It just shows the text in a document box (similar to a textbox). If you want to edit the text after doing this you have to open the original document.

you could just use copy and paste special. Copy the work to be inserted and in the master document use paste special instead as this option will keep all the formatting.
