No surprise here in the pricing , seems like if you want extreme you have to pay extreme.

They got the point just fine.

Well they would really sock it to everybody if they locked all the lower end ones, or just didn't allow OCing on <Top of the line chipsets....Then if you wanted great performance you would have to pay....alot...alot alot.

It's just refreshing to see quads, especially the Q6600 being produced as mainstream processors, that, and seeing that the Q6600 won't see EOL until at least Q2 of '09.

oc'ing a $300 quad and making it perform like a $1k quad is the same as your example, just on a different scale.

I don't like how people say oc'ing is just something developed by guys with cheap processors. it's all about getting the most out of your hardware regardless of how much you paid for it. overclocking is an overall enthusiast hobby.

The point of Overclocking is to buy cheap and slow components and overclock them to beat the faster ones, not to go out and buy a extreme edition, overclock it a little bit and then say your done.

Johnny Utah: The first overclockers were people with really cheap 486's, etc using Jumpers to make their CPU run as fast as the fastest components, or faster, buying a $400 Nehalem is still missing the point entirely, when there is a cheap range next to it, Why should I pay $400 I could spend on games, when I could say, get one that can be overclocked just as fast for $200?

Going AMD this round, $400 is too much for me anyway.

We get the point, Intel gets the point.

Their understanding of OCing is exactly why they are hesitant to support it/make it easy. Why on earth would Intel want anyone getting high end performance without paying them high end costs?
