Got the 3870 OC, not impressed...

Thread Starter
So I went out and got the ATI 3870 OC for $130, replaced my 8800 GS I got 2 months ago for $100.

I thought the ATI card would give me a appx 20% boost, but it didn't really do crap. I went from 3dMark 10K to 11K, that's it, I was hoping for 12,500.

Is it my PSU? or is this card really not that good, I wonder if I should return it.

Just an observation, it is freaking HUGE. twice the thickness of the 8800 GS and longer, thing is scary looking, can't beleive I fit it in my case.

No really good games out now, I wish they would come out with the next company or heroes.

My Computer is
Deill Inspiron 530
Quad 3.2
3 GB RAM
350 W PSU
Vista 32Bit

Oh, also, are my cores running too hot? What should be a good temp on those.

Thanks all, regards.

You should indeed replace your 350W PSU..

i recommend you take 450+ 500 would do you good =)

it won't stress the PSU to give ur System some power.

replacing the PSU would increase some speed by relieving some stress

Dell commonly under rates there PS. If it is powering the card without problems its not the issue.

Your going to need more than a 350W psu with a q6600@3.2 and that card. I get above 12k in 3dmark.

You can always return the card and not mess with it anymore.

Hmm, I wonder if it is my PSU, maybe I should get a 500w.

BTW Anyone know what good core temps are?

Or I could just return it, seemed like a great deal, I thought it was going to be a minor jump from my 8800 GS.
