Got the 3870 OC, not impressed... - Page 2

"Good" temps are pretty much people's opinions. Usually under 70 degrees load

"Safe" temps are anything under 85 degrees (The core can take like 100 degrees but that's pushing it and temps like that can cause damage)

8800GT > 3870 by a slight amount... the 8800GS is a dumbed down GT, so rationally, that would mean that the 3870 wouldn't be that far away from a GS in terms of performance

If you were wanting an upgrade that really showed improvement, you should have probably looked around for a G92 8800 GTS...

Also, I completely agree with everyone else as far as the PSU goes... You would want a decent 450+ W PSU to power a quadcore/3870 rig... considering that the PSU is probably a stock dell rated for (but probably not dishing out) 350W , I'm sure it's giving you way too little juice...

Dell motherboards don't overclock. Your quad is at 3.2? What cpu do you have?

I'm sorry, that was my old dimension, my bad, the proccessor for this is 2.4

The case is so tight, I wonder if I should just return back the 3870, put back in the 800GS and wait till 8800GTS drops in price.

I'll probably need a new PSU for that.

Is it my PSU? or is this card really not that good, I wonder if I should return it.

Just an observation, it is freaking HUGE. twice the thickness of the 8800 GS and longer, thing is scary looking, can't beleive I fit it in my case.

No really good games out now, I wish they would come out with the next company or heroes.

My Computer is
Deill Inspiron 530
Quad 3.2
3 GB RAM
350 W PSU
Vista 32Bit

Oh, also, are my cores running too hot? What should be a good temp on those.

Thanks all, regards.

Yea, I'm a little hesitant about OC anything with my PSU. But if the 3870 is 10% faster than the 8800 GTS 640, then I should be getting better than what I am getting.

Is installing a new PSU a pain?
