Vista bug bug

Thread Starter
Well I thought with the 64 bit versions of vista, if you had 2x2 gigs of ram, you were suppose to only stick one in, install vista, and then update to sp1 before installing the second stick.

Well I was able to install vista with both sticks installed no problem, I installed all the updates available to me, and I am just now being told I can download SP1?

Its just weird is all, but here is a list of bugs so far I am already having problems with.

When I install games, the very last thing the installer asks is whether I want a desktop icon, a start menu icon, etc. At that point, it errors and closes, so it never installs an icon so I always have to hunt it down and make a shortcut, I cant find the icon for mass effect so I have to play off of the CD every time.

When I come out of hibernation, my desktop background is always back and when I go to reset dreamscape, all my dreamscape videos are gone.

IE is very slow, dont know why, maybe SP1 will fix all of this.

Most games install to the "Games" folder now in vista if its supported. The icon for mass effect is probably in there.

Some useful tools for Vista IMO:

I would recommend the reg edit to allow, "Take Ownership". Every once in a while, I get an error because i dont have ownership of a certain file. So with this regedit, you can now right click on a folder and select "take ownership". This is by far my favorite tweak!

I also set UAC to silent (not disable). Here is the link for Tweak UAC. Just download and set UAC to silent.

I would also recommend installing the Vista Codec pack.

As for the 4Gb hotfix (included in SP1), it only affects about 75% of the systems.

It seems to work pretty good. At the time K-Lite codec didnt support Vista, so I've been using the Vista pack.
