Yup. bring up your volts and FSB to squeeze some power out of it.

Noobdown, was your previous processor overclocked? Basically just perform the same function as you did before. What kind of single core processor is it? By the way there is nothing wrong with a single core proc

Good luck!

Well on a single core system, i notice if you have many start up programs, that'll really bog down your system, so you might want to go through and take off some start up applications.

Also, if possible, overclocking is always a good idea as well.

Well, if the use of the single core 1ghz is only temporary and for things like web surfing etc until the good PC can be repaired, i'd suggestion taking a venture into Linux. Since "general computing" is all supported out of the box on most distro's, it shoudl be easy, you'll get a change of atmosphere, and linux runs blindingly fast on old systems compared to windows. Ubuntu has a very nice and easy to navigate GUI, and shoudl work great as a interim web browser for you .

I can understand a 1Ghz single core mobile processor having problems but s 5 year old S754 single core sempron 2800+ (example) can still run things perfectly fine. Granted a DVD movie cannot be encoded in under 5mins but you can still play games.

Noobdown, I'm a little confused by a few of your responses. So basically your left with a single core processor for the time being until you receive your other board back from RMA?
In terms of "speeding up" are you wanting to overclock or are you wanting to clean up your Windows installation? What are the specifications of your current rig (the one running the single core processor)? What series/model is the processor?

Sorry I'm a little clueless on that response. Care to explain a little more?

if you are stuck with a p3, best way to keep it fast is to do as little as possible on it. Go camping or something

Seriously though, I have a p3 - 866 here and all I have on it is msn, office2007, windows, and antivirus and it runs pretty quick. Its a bit tardy on the bootup, but it still runs. And all this from a board thats literally been caught on fire, and has multiple blow capacitors. Im amazed its still running. Tough SOBs those p3s are.

If you ahve something over 2ghz, I wouldnt be too worried about it slowing down, after all, your 4800+ is still only 2.4-2.5ghz
