it scales really well as you can see by the vantage score in my sig It beats out any single card solution (including the 3870x2) except for the 9800Gx2. it basically maxes out every game at 1680x1050 besides Crysis. However, people running over 1680x1050 are better off with a single 9800/8800gtx because from benches i have read the performance declines rapidly over that resolution.

i am probably going to step up to 2 - 260 gtx's when they come out though

I think it's also going to depend on what other hardware you are getting to match up with the cpu. The Q6600 is older, and 1066 fsb, whereas the 8400 is a 1333. Not all the boards out there will support the 8400. So the question really relies on what other parts are you getting?

hi, although the E8400 is good atm for OC'ing for future proofing the Q6600 would be far better because in the long run will come more useful. depends if your looking for a future investment or a short term investment.

Just get either one; you can't go wrong either way. It's not likely a few fps gain from an e8400 will make or break your day. In the same way, how much happier will it make you by shaving a few seconds in multitasking by getting a q6600?

^ Given similar clock speeds.

Both will handle ANYTHING fine. e8400's are more sensitive to voltage though [45nm].

i've got both processors, i at first had the E8400 and it worked fantastically well but in the end i bought the Q6600 as i started using photoshop on a very regular basis and wanted the improved performance. the q6600 still works fine when running my games like World in Conflict so i'm happy with the system. if you are going to simply play games i would go for the 8400 but if you plan on having the processor for a while yet then i would go for the 6600
