Time to buy new mobo... :(

Thread Starter
i posted this yesterday: ( this is an update, still need help)

Quote:
Today, I have been desperately searching for the cause of these system "lock ups". When a "lockup" occurs, the screen freezes at its current position, can't move the mouse, etc. Something else i noticed later was that when the system "locked up" like this, the HDD light would turn off and cease to blink completely. First assumption would be; bad harddrive. Wrong. I have Linux installed on a different harddrive, where the "lockups" also occur. That counts the harddrive out. At this point I'm thinking it has got to be either; NB, CPU or the RAM. I tested each DIMM individually (4x 1gb B allistix) in 2 random slots, all passed memtest86(+) with flying colors. That counts the RAM out. At this point, i was upping the (G)MCH and the vcore to experiment, but to no avail. My pc still continues to lockup and i have exhausted all my knowledge, I really don't know what else to do.

Here is my current configuration:
CPU: Q6600 G0 Stepping (Stock = 2.4Ghz)
CPU Multiplier: 8x
FSB: 415
Current Frequency: 3.32Ghz (415*8)
RAM Multiplier: 2x (830 Mhz) Crucial Ballistix 4x1gb 800mhz stock
DDR Overvoltage: +0.40v
(G)MCH aka Northbridge Overvoltage: +0.375v
FSB Overvoltage: +0.30v

Current vcore: 1.36875v
(VID: 1.2875v)
Today I reset EVERYTHING to default and to my surprise, system still continued to lockup!
Some Additional Information About My System:
Mobo: GA-P35-DS4 rev2.1 (here)
CPU Temps:
~30c idle
~42c load
Ambient System Temp: 44-46c
Room's Ambient Temp: ~22c
PSU: 750w (here)

So lets say i DO need to get a new motherboard.. which should i get?
I've been looking at this one: here

The 780 is great.. But if your not planning on tri sli, the 750i ftw treats many of us very well

Have you considered maby either the PSU or Vid card as a problem?

I had similar lock-ups and no posts with my ga-965p, funny thing is i got the new mobo and problem stopped, but i installed a Pent D on the 965p and it runs like a champ???? so problem just dissapeared, but i never figured out what was causing it...

lol @ 750i ftw.

id say the 780i is a solid choice. i bought a 680i LT in january, i had the chance to step up right after i bought it and now i wish i had. its great, it has yorkfield support if you go that route later, and support for tri-sli.

You need more voltage on that OC.
