Current CPUs are so powerful that they should be able to handle the GPUs... however, the FSB seems to be lacking.

Again, thought in process and no proof (yet).
woot? low multilier ftw? now my e6550 has something to brag about

The term bottlenecking in the graphics world refers to how fast the CPU can pass the information to the graphics cards.

If your CPU is not fast enough to feed them 3 cards with the information they want in time and in tandem then there is going to be a performance hit and this is what we call the bottlneck.

People forget that everything inside your PC apart from the PSU is fully reliant on the CPU for its data... Regardless of what resolution you are running.
hmm yes but the reason why we invented discrete videocards is so that we can off load all that 3D work on something that's deticated to 3d gaming or w/e. Evendtenitally when you ram up the textures, lightning and resolutions etc. its the videocards that doing all the work and the cpu has little to do in gaming now @ high settings. I'm not saying anyone wrong or but w/e, but i got to get to my next class

My 9800GTX's, with the fan on 100% under load, ran at about 70 degrees C when playing crysis for about an hour.

No lie.

That is partially why I am RMA'ing them right now...
oh that and they are DEAD.

I was about to say there is no way in hell a Q6600 and a 780i is a bottleneck. But then I read the date of your post and since then you've probably upgraded to them lol.
