Budget Gaming (esp COD4) Rig for Bro: Opinions

Thread Starter
Well, I've finally had enough of my brother commandeering my rig to play Call of Duty 4, and while I know some of you would just like me to kick him off, I'm gonna be nice and build him his own rig.

Point being that I need suggestions for a "somewhat" budget build.

By "somewhat," I mean that half of the project will be upgrading my current rig.

I'll be building my bros rig out of maybe half or so of the stuff in my rig.

I'll probably give him my mobo, PSU, RAM, and an E6600 I've got laying around.

With this in mind, please recommend a good new mobo, PSU, and 2x2gb kit of RAM for my new sig rig.

I've really been liking Intel mobos, and like the X38 chipset, but I'm thinking of buying an Intel brand (not just chipset) motherboard. I've been looking at the BOXDX38BT, but I'm wondering if there's a better chipset that's out or is coming out soon.

Suggestions for new-rig parts are being taken.

All help appreciated...

What's your budget man?

EDIT: Definitely upgrade the video card though...8800GT512 or 9600GT512.

yeah, i'll be putting new cards in both of our rigs, and the 8800gt looks like a safe bet, unless the 9600 is close in price and has better performance.

Budget? well, I want quality parts. Like i said, I'm interested in this intel board, but buying it requires some gddr3, which costs like <$100 for a partriot kit for 2gbs, and i'll buy two kits. But i also need to upgrade my video card, and i'll probably go with the 4850 with all this other stuff in mind.

Power supply? im thinking I dont need anything over 750-800w, but feel free to make suggestions.

All in all, i realize i didn't lay down a budget very clearly, but its not too much of an issue as long as this doesn't cost me...say...o god...um $600? is that too low?

snap...forgot about a case...lol (kind of...just more money)

o well, thanks for the suggestions so far...

+1 on the above questions. And a good video card will make all the difference.

Question:

I plan on buying a DFI LanParty X48 Intel mobo, but wonder what good, sub-$100 ram would work with it...

Anybody have any ideas? I'm looking for a 2x2gb kit & <$100 pricetag (as mentioned before)...

all help appreciated...

On that same note, will a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 fit on the DFI Lanparty X48? If possible, I would like it pointing backwards towards the rear exhaust fan. Thoughts?

I would get a 8800GT with the aforementioned mobo. A Q6600 or E7200 would be your choice, though if you want this system to last a while get a Q6600.

Lemondrips post for RAM is the best for under $100.

I would get this PSU:
