Help me oc q6600+800mhzDDR2+EVGA 780i

Thread Starter
I have:

evga 780i w/latest bios
kingston pc2-6200 KVR800D2N5K2/4G
q6600 = not sure if its G0 or not.

All i want to go up to is memory 1066 and cpu to 3.0

Also another question i have, its very cool in the room + i have 8 fans inside my tower its a Fatality tower. Will that be good enough for cooling because i dont have a cooling kit.

Please tell me step by step what to do in the bios because im a newb. thx

What do you mean by "cooling kit"? Do you mean you have just the stock heatsink? If so, I'm not sure if you could get 3.0 with that even. Quads generate a lot of heat.

About the overclocking. Have you read the guides here on the forum?

You could bring the CPU to 3ghz no problem, although heat might be a concern if you are on the stock cooling. As for the RAM, I don't think you could get 1066 out of that. Try going for around 900-950 without loosening the timings, if not loosen them a bit and then max out the clock speed as much as you can. Don't worry too much about the memory, it won't give you a noticeable boost in performance as compared to the CPU clock. You would be able to break the 3GHZ barrier if you have aftermarket cooling, most likely around 3.4-3.6ghz.

To get it to 3.0ghz, simply increase the multiplier to 9x, set the FSB to 333-334mhz, and the Vcore to 1.3V. If you can;t get it stable, increase the Vcore a bit. If it is stable, lower it until it is unstable, then higher it. To test for stability, run Orthos or Prime95 for at least half an hour for a quick estimate, and 2+ hours for 24/7 stability.
