Nope.

You can use different brands, but you will need the same type. Make sure the hardware is the same, but if the clockspeeds are different, it'll be ok. In sli, the slowest clock speed will be set to both cards.
they just have to be the same clockspeed and have the same amount of vRAM

oh. by the way, go with PNY. I had the choice of an eVGA 8800GT 512, and a PNY 8800GTS 512, and i went with the eVGA, before finding out that they aren't so great with Step-Up in the UK and that my card is a really poor clocker...

shoulda gone with the GTS 512

Of coarse it will work fine. It's still the same card. All SLI cares about is that it's the same chip on there honestly. You will be limited to the slowest card on both meaning whatever the slowest card is clocked at, the other will be too.

Hell i remember that an X1950XTX could be crossfired with an X1950XT becuase of the same chip in there. Is this true with SLi today?

They have to be the same card (ie a 9800GTX won't sli with an 8800GTS even though they're essentially the same)

Brand doesn't matter, although i've heard that non-reference boards sometimes have the sli connectors in incompatible locations. They' DON'T have to have the same stock clock speed, however they have to run at the same clocks while in sli.

I'm not sure if different amounts of memory work. I don't think that a 1gb card will work with a 512mb card, but I'm not positive.
