How Can I Get 7.5V From a PSU?

Thread Starter
I've got this old portable TV screen for game consoles, and I'm going to try to integrate it into my Antec 900, as in have everything run off of my PSU and my GPU internally. My current problem is trying to find a way to get the screen 7.5v DC, as listed on it's (old) casing. Is there an easy way to do this or am I going to have to build something to go along with it?

There's no 7.5v on a molex. And last time I checked, using the 12v+5v lines together on most things other than fans will kill your 5v rail.

Would buying this and splicing it into a molex connector work?

You can't.

You can use your +12v and get a DC-DC Step Down transformer.

You could use a resistor of the right size, but that will noyl work for small a current, how much power does that screen need?

I think it's a little above 250ma.

I bought 5 of the XBox screens for the same reason (they were oin clearance at 25 each, bought everything they had haha). They fit PERFECTLY in older Lian Li cases, the ones with 3x 3.5" bays.

You people who say 'you cant', just wow.

http://www.reuk.co.uk/Zener-Diode-Voltage-Regulator.htm

Put VOut at 7.5, put VSource at 12, and Imax at whatever the power block is designed to output. The block will say 7.5v 250ma or something. Put in the ammount specified and you will get your answer.

This will cost you about 3 dollars to build. And you will need to solder.

You can also buy pre-set voltage regulators, which are 3 pin. You put 12v in one pin, ground another, and bam. Out comes 7.5 volts. Just make sure it can drive enough current to run your screen.

You will most likely require a heatsink for the project too (nothing big at all, just a little one will do fine)

Hope this helps...

http://www.powerstream.com/dc6.htm

It takes 6-30V DC and changes it to 1.5/3/4.5/5/6/7.5/9/12v DC. It can handle up to 2-3A or 25w. Most portable LCD use less than 10w.

Get a simplier and cheaper model.

your psu provides AC power doesn't it? You'll need some kind of convertor to go from AC to DC before you start trying to give that thing power.
