Quick question on Multipliers

Thread Starter
I have a 5000 Black Edition, and I would like to take advantage of the unlocked multi, and bring it to 3GHz

Is a 5000 BE generally stable without voltage bumps for 3.0GHz? Will a purely-multiplier based overclock stress any other components? Stock HSF ok? (Current idle temp is about 38 with fan on low speed). I don't have the time or patience to bring it up by .5, and test for hours for stability. This computer will be mostly used as a closet-folder with a wifi card and remote desktop...so I will probably only be checking on it through FAHMon once a day...

I don't NEED to OC it if there is a chance it wont be particularly stable, but I'm a member of OverClock.net, so whenever I don't overclock something, I have to beat myself to a pulp with an old power supply for blasphemy.

AMD Athlon X2 5000+ Black Edition
Asus M3A Motherboard
2gb Balistix PC2-6400
580Watt Generic PSU...with failing fans that need replacing

.... generally speaking, a 5000 BE should run just fine at 3.0 with stock volts and only a multi change.... and it won't stress any other components. Stock HSF?.... are you meaning a stock AMD one?.... since the BE doesn't come with one.... it should be fine, but keep an eye on temps to start with, just to make sure.

Hope that helps you.... good luck!

Yeah I read that one too when I bought the chip, good info but I wanted some other experiences to be sure

Also I am using the HSF that came with my Athlon 5600x2, which works fine for stock speed (and is really really quiet...always liked that about AMD's stock HSF's)

Thanks for the replies, if no one posts with reason why I shouldn't just slap it to 15x, I'll go ahead and do it in the morning (bumping it by .5x and running a 1m SuperPi for basic stability) I'll push it till it crashes then drop back by 1x...I won't even attempt to raise voltage on this HSF

Wish me luck
