Ermm did I read that right, you bought a pre-built HP/Compaq off newegg? If so, the bios is typically locked and overclocking(aside from a bsel mod) is out of the question... Not only that, but the 945G chipset is a horrible overclocker which coupled with a locked bios = no voltage options and a lack of PCI lock means very little FSB wiggle room.

It's not all bad news. As I stated earlier a bsel mod(800->1066) could be used...

What that does is it bumps up "stock" FSB from 800mhz(QDR) to 1066mhz(QDR). So instead of 200FSB x 9 = 1.8ghz you get 266FSB x 9 = 2.4ghz. All you need is a conductive ink pen(sold at RadioShack) or car defogger repair paint will work too.

You connect the VSS pin to BSEL1 and bam, if you've done it right and it's compatible with your mobo you now have a 2.4ghz e4300.

If you're really ambitious you could try a 333FSB(1333QDR) BSEL/Pin mod and have a 3ghz e4300... However for that to be possible on stock volts you'd need to have landed a very nice e4300. Assuming your CPU can't run 3.0ghz at stock all is not lost, for there are also volt mods that can be done to raise the stock VID.

Volt mod can be found here. And here's the 800->1066 then 1066->1333 pin mod.

Attachment 74829

I'd say try the 1066 mod first and go from there... Oh and if you botch it no big deal, non-acetone nail polish remover will clean it right off and you try again.
