Problems with my AC Freezer 7 Pro and e8400?

Thread Starter
Guys, I am new here and have a question. My system is P5N-D with e8400 and AC Freezer 7 Pro. At auto speeds for FSB and voltage my Asus reports 50c idle. I have tested OCing and it has gotten as high as 93c. Why is this? Too much thermal paste? I used the thermal paste that came installed on the cooler. I am using Asus PC Probe 2 as my temp monitor. Any information or good suggestions for me?

Use another temp monitoring program to confirm these temps. I recommend RealTemp. Pay most attention to the distance to TJ Max. Also see what it says for the the stock VID rating.

You may also want to run cpu-z or hwmonitor to get an idea of what voltages you actually have. If you havent updated the BIOS recently your board may have the wrong voltage table for your chip.

You should also check to be sure that the proper amount of thermal compound is applies and that your heatsink is correctly clamped down. Push pin mounting systems can be tricky for those who have not gotten used to them.

Also, what OC did you test and how did you test it?

What

Is

Your

Ambient

Temperature?

If it is over 60C, it means your chip is doing extremely well. 10C under ambients on idle? Nice! Thats like TEC temps!

Seriously though, try to find out what your ambient temperature is, use HWmonitor or CPU-Z to make sure the readings are real, along with your VID.

From my understanding programs that come with the mobo to monitor temps are generally not as good as CoreTemps or Realtemps.

http://www.overclock.net/downloads/1...core-temp.html
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=179044 (Realtemps)

Check to see if the HSF is mounted properly and all the fans are working.

How's your case cooling set up?
Is your 8800GT single or dual-slot and how does your heat from the GT get out of your case?

Check all the mounts are down if it is not flat your screwed. reseat and make sure one of the pins doesn't come up. I sit at 20 C idea 31 load none overclock E6420 with A900. (need my new mobo to start my overclocking )

The overclock I tried was 1688 FSB @ 1.35v. Thanks for the suggestions guys. My vid card is a single slot that is OC'ed to 700 from factory. Probably hot. I will check my cooler seating and thermal compound. I just figure that Arctic Cooler people would put the right amount.

I have run Real Temp and looks like my MB program reports 49c and Real Temp reports 41/39 for both cores @ idle.

a) download and install coretemp
b) download and install intel TAT
c) tell us the ambient temp (room temperature)
d) list the temps on idle and load using those two programs
e) CPUZ screen shot would help too
f) brief description of airflow in your case would be nice

you're right, there is something wrong, my Q6600 OCed at 2.8 idles at 38 C when ambient is 80 F

Dowloaded TAT and it says invalid processor.

Running CoreTemp my proc runs @ 51/49 idle

Running RealTemp my proc runs @ 41/39 idle

Is the HSF mounted properly?

Does the fan spin at 2000rpm (100%)? Sometimes this can only be achieved by turning off Auto Fan Control in the BIOS somewhere.
