Problems with my AC Freezer 7 Pro and e8400? - Page 2

Slightly OT, but Intel's TAT is absolutely savage. Running that will have my cores up at 53-55C with 100% loading - play that against BOINC running SETI & Rosetta which also loads 100%, but will only push the cores to 46C. Can't figure that one out!!

Fan is running about 1800 @ idle. I am going to check my cooler. What is the best thermal compound? I currently have Arctic Silver 5 that I can apply.

all you need is a SMALL dab of AS5.

your fan control is probably set on auto by the bios for the cool and quiet running of the PC.

you can lower the temp by having the cooler run at max speed 100% of the time.
try changing that.

take the side panel of the case off to see if it lowers your temp.

I had an Arctic Freezer Pro 7 before I got my Tuniq. I couldn't figure out for months why my CPU was always so hot... turned out my AF7 never ran more than about 50% under load!

Boy, what a difference setting it to 100%! A drop of around 10C.

I understand that you want the fan to run @ 100% but I am trying to make my system as quiet as possible. I have thought of changing to a Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX. Since it has a 120 fan vs. 92 is it much quiter? I know that I am trying to overclock and be quiet which does not go well together but maybe the bigger fan on the VX will not make as much noise and I know it moves a lot more air. Which is the best AND quietest cooler for air systems? I think I do need to check my thermal compound and re-seat my cooler but when the AC Freezer 7 Pro cranks up it does make some noise.

My case is on a shelf just above ear level so I hear everything. This is why I am so picky for quiet but OC'ing is more important than sound and I dont want to get into water cooling.

I had the AC 7 Pro (until recently) w/ E8400 @ 3.6 with a 8800GT SC (single-slot)
idle 37c
load 53c

On my GT I use an aftermarket Zalman cooler and an additional 80mm case fan (exhaust)
Remount the AC 7
Try using PWM fan setting
Improve your GT's heat exhaust situation

I dont mean to sound stupid but what is the PWN setting for my fan? I have the BIOS controlling it now.

For the vid card should I go with a 8800GTS (G92) so I have exhaust. Do they run quieter and cooler? Or do I buy one of those expansion slow vga coolers?

I have P182 with 2 120mm fans in the back (1 on back and 1 on top), 1 fan in power supply channel on bottom. I guess it would help if I had a fan in the front pulling in and blowing on the vid card.

In my bios setup for cpu fan control there are 2 options:
Auto
PWN

The AC 7 Pro is PWN capable.
RPM 900 - 2500 RPM(PWM)
http://www.arctic-cooling.com/cpu2.p...9&data=1&disc=
The PWM chip in the motor allows an exact fan speed control via BIOS. (4 wire)

I have just measured my ambient temp and it is about 21c. My Real Temp reports 41/39 for both cores, Core Temp reads 51/49. Interestingly enough my ASUS Probe software reports 48 for the cpu and 44 for mb.

I reseated my CPU fan and applied AS5 compound and it dropped it a few degrees. I am thinking of buying a Thermalwrite ultra 120 extreme. Do you figure that would help?
