ram's not bad but i would stick with 2x 1gb stick.

to overclock with 4 dimms populated is more limited than your current setup

I am using 2x 1GB stick right now. Stock speeds were DDR2 800 5-5-5-18 (Pretty fast for the price). Right now I have them clocked at DDR2 825 4-4-4-12 (Very fast for the price!)

IMO corsair is really good considering it isn't prohibitively expensive. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't have much money to spend.

You should just overclock the sticks until they fail to remain stable. Thats all the advice that there is to finding how fast you can get your sticks to go. It shouldnt hurt them unless you up the voltage so just try it out. The worst thing that is going to happen, is that when you turn the FSB up to 201 your comp fails to start and you have to reset the bios by jumpers. Since I've never seen that happen once in my life, and clearing the bios is just annoying, not dangerous, you have nothing to lose really.

2 x 1 > 4 x 256..

Not only are you losing out on ram, but you are making life hell for the onchip memory controller... I would do as was suggested and try to overclock the ram until it fails to remain stable. $20 was a decent deal I guess, neither good nor bad, but considering you already had 2gb, its kinda a waste.
