Best SLI board to OC a Q6600? - Page 2

Nice, same as me! before you upgrade.. try 1600FSB and 1.35v (Depnding on the droop of your board, you may need more voltage).

If it works, you'll effectivly be at 3.6Ghz

My vote: EVGA 780i.

AVOID the 790i... it's been nothing but problems for me. My 780i was the best board I ever owned....

Ok, I just tried it. I couldn't even boot, nor even see my motherboard screen, just a black screen, like it wasn't even connected. I had to reset my CMOS, and now I'm back @ 3.1ghz.

Blugh. Must be the mobo. A VID as low as that can go high with relatively low volts.

Yes, my mobo has issues with clocking the quads.

Correct, it doesnt supply the GTL Ref voltage needed for quad core overclocking.

I think the eVGA 750i FTW is a great choice. here are some reviews:

Occasionally I get b**h-slapped by my editors for cursing a little too much in my reviews; but f**k it, this is a nice mainboard guys ! The reality is simple; some features are cut away opposed to the 250-350 USD mainboards yet the rest is the same and some even better with this mainboard. In the past the 650 SLI series never was that good in overclocking, hey NVIDIA doesn't like to destroy it's own enthusiast market. But this 750i SLI FTW is just an exceptionally good mainboard if your mission is to tweak and overclock. It has everything we as enthusiast PC users want. It looks cool, even comes with multi-channel sound, including TOSLINK optical output, fantastic performance, the sexy diagnostic LED, and it has micro switches for power on/off, reset and now also CMOS (yay!).

EVGA has quite a success on their hands in the form of this new 750i SLI FTW Edition as far as overclocking goes as this motherboard excels most others in this area. Offering exceptional BIOS options that are easy to manipulate is a key factor in the success of this product and every BIOS tweaker will be satisfied with the amount of headroom available on the FTW Edition. EVGA only used high quality parts and beyond spec solid state capacitors to achieve this accomplishment and it is the king of the 750i motherboards.
Here is an OCN thread on the 750i FTW.

Ok, so it boils down to the 750i FTW, or the 780i. Any ideas and big differences?

The only dawback to the eVGA 750 FTW is that it only has 4 SATA ports. But the board is a better OCer then the 780i. The chipset strap of the 780i (and the 680i) are a limiting factor. This is just my opinion, but the eVGA 750i FTW is a stellar board.

How many SATA ports do you utilize and what are hooked up to them? I'm just wondering...
