I think you got the better trade lol.

I don't think there will be a drastic change but if there is, remember that free case you scored.

Time to be one of the last people to jump on the 8800GT band wagon.

I suppose it really depends on what you're primary uses of the rig are. I wouldn't expect a comfortable gaming experience at resolutions over 1280x1024 for newer games and whatnot. That 7950gt you're parting with is a pretty sick piece of hardware though...I have a buddy with one, and I think it's pretty nice for being 2, almost 3 generations old.

As for basic applications, web surfing, spreadsheets and the like, I really doubt you'll see much of a performance decrease, if any at all.

I don't really forsee a problem gaming at 1440x900. That's a pretty lenient resolution in the quality/speed department.

if youre not happy just grab an 8800 GT. IMO it's a good deal considering you snag a case as well

Lets see, hmmm ...

Well, the 7950GT has double the memory, and there are MANY gaming scenarios (though by no means all) wherein >256MB of memory will get used, thus automatically making the 256MB card 'choppy' compared to a card with extra vram beyond what is being used.

The 7950GT has 20% more pixel shader power (20 vs 24), and about 15% more vertex shader power (7 vs 8).

And the 7950GT overclocks at least 30% (475 vs 615) higher on both core and vram. And on that generation of card, that 30% ALONE means damn near 30% increase in performance.

Factoring in each of the above: memory amounts, pipeline differences, and clock speed differences, I'd say on average you're gonna lose on average about 40% of your performance. Where you used to get 50FPS, you'll get 30FPS. Roughly.

I'd say it's about the difference between a 8800GTS320 and a 9800GTX.
