Official [SMT] DFI Lanparty DK 790FX-M2RS + AMD Phenom 9850 BE Thread - Page 5

The faster things run the more voltage they need... generally.

I got frustrated thinking.. more CPU voltage... its unstable at this speed, what gives because the RAM isn't OCed ( I save that for last ), the HT is in check and the NB vbumps did nothing so up went the SBridge voltage and bye bye to instability and down came the NBridge and vcore.

I'm sorry to report that I didn't experience any more stability.

I set the multi to 15x200 for 3.0, which is where I and pretty much everyone else gets unstable without pumping vcore. In my Award Bios I went to [Genie Bios Settings>PWM Settings>SB PLL 1.2V Voltage] and changed it from 1.2 to 1.3, which was strange because it goes up from the bottom from 1.2>1.4>1.3>1.5. Strange way for computer programmers to count. . . Does this make sense to anyone other than an error they made when writing the BIOS?

Anyway, I had SB-1.3, CPU +.05, and NBCore 1.29(default), froze 5 seconds into prime blend. Same at SB 1.4V and even when I put +.075 Vcore, NBCore 1.32, NB HT 1.32V, and 1.4V SB still froze 30 into prime blend.

In my experience, the CPU needs +.1V over default to pass even a suicide run. That is also the point when heat becomes an issue.

2.9Ghz seems to only require +.05V, which results in manageable temps and easy semi stability.

I am getting more and more tempted to invest in water cooling, as this MB offers alot of opportunity for such mods.

I don't see how giving the SB more juice would affect your CPU overclock. It may even decrease system stability.
Have you tried using the really low dividers? 533 and below? The IMC nearly always is what limits an OC. Try loosening your RAM timings too. You won't loose any performance anyways.

Although I knida know what you mean my loosen the timings, what exactly, do I change to if I'm running 5-5-5-16-33 ? To tighten I would lower the 33 trc to 26 or something right? loosed I'd raised it? This is some lingo that is confusing for noobs like me, I know what you mean, just not how to do it.

I have a suspision that when I OC using the FSB, and I get an error loading windows or bluescreens that it's the memory.

Thanks for the reply. +Rep for the specific info.

I don't want to loosen them unless I need to. I'm thinking more of tightening them. Stable isn't as much of a problem for me lately as heat.

What would you suggest for tighter timings with this ram?

You could try 4-4-4-12-33

Does anyone know why my RAM is only running at 800? This mobo is suppose to support 1066 when running a phenom but it's only running my RAM at 800, I don't get it.
