I'm interested to see the effect adding the IMC has on the overclockability on these chips. I agree with you though. I don't think they will overclock as well as the current generation due to the IMC, but time will tell for sure.

Multitasking. Plain and simple.

Yea but it would be nice if all software and games could take advatage of multi-core cpu's by running multiple threads at once. Just think how much faster games could be if they could run 4 threads instead of one. I think that's what Cogs was trying to say.

Even soo that means the game will be unplayeable with a single core. Even a dual core if they make it with 4 threads

By that reasoning all crossfire/SLI compatible games wouldn't run on single GPU's. Thinking before you speak is a good thing.
How does anyone expect the industry to advcance without pushing current systems?
I remember when Quake III came out and there weren't very many PCs that could run it well(for cheap), it helped drive the industry forward. These days it seems to be the opposite, hardware manufacturers are creating amazingly powerful processors and there aren't any games or programs to utilize all the extra power.

The inherent issue is that multithreaded coding is a whole different animal than single-threaded. It's not as though they simply open up an INI and change it from "multithreading=0" to "multithreading=1". With your example, it was not as though the whole thought process of the industry had to change - it was simply a matter of taking what was currently in production and slightly changing the designs to make it faster.

i think it's time to start saving the pennies for Nehalem...

On the other hand, that's good news... I was kinda hoping C2D's easy OCing wasn't a one-off thing
