yeah i would say so. there is times when its not worth it like if you bought a G92 8800 GTS when they came out you wouldn't of had much to step up to.

Where are you guys all getting this 15-20% number

Did someone just make it up or what???

The 9800GTX is at least 30% faster than the 8800GT if both cards are at max OC w/no v-mods.

A good 8800GT will clock to somewhere around 700 core, where a decent 9800GTX will do 850 core or darned close to it. The memory bandwidth is much larger as well due to the higher speeds.

Not to mention which, the 9800GTX has 128sp's instead of 112.

I used to get 20-22fps in Crysis with my 8800GT, now I am pushing 35+ with the 9800GTX OC'ed. That is a HUGE difference in playability, and MUCH more than 15-20% increase.

Having owned three different 8800GT's before this 9800GTX, I would have to say go for it.

If not consider selling your 8800GT and taking the $126 and getting yourself a HD4870 or something.

^^ Agreed.

If you've got an G80 8800GTS 320/640, 8800GS, 8600GT, 8400, or lower (ie. a seven series card, it's defintiely worth it.)

I even had an 8800 GT 512 (G92) and I say it was worth the upgrade, especially since the 9800GTX was cheaper than the G92 GTS when I bought it.

Like I said earlier, you should notice 30 % or greater difference.

In performance alone, I average 52 FPS in Crysis @ 1280x1024 with no AA.

8800GT 512 would hit 35-40 FPS, if that..

In his case, that would be the better bet, since it technically is. I think at most, 9800GTX's are about 10% better than the GTS 512, though I've seen tons of GTS's beat my 9800GTX flat out.

So yeah, go for the 8800GTS, since it's cheaper in USA.

They're very close, but the 9800GTX has a beefier power supply section, notably faster/better OC'ing memory, and can overclock slightly higher on the core in general.

the thing you have to remember is the higher the frames the % drops, so if you have a card that does 1 fps and another that does 2 fps then thats a 100% increase , but that does not mean they will be 50 fps and 100fps on a dif game. i guess what im saying is your % dif is not constant.

I stepped up from an 8800GTS 320 to an 8800GT 512 for free... and my frames in Crysis doubled.
