Though they actually perform "roughly" the same. (and I use that term sparingly)

The negative aspect in this regard is the fact that the 9800GTX needs two 6pin PCI-E connectors.

Like I said, the 8800GTS 512 is the better bet.

Yeah, I agree that it's worth it.

I have a step up option on my 9800GTX and I'm considering stepping up to the GX2 / GT260/280.

I don't see how it wouldn't be "worth it" since I could get a 600-800 dollar card for the difference between the two (probably ~2-300)

In Crysis especially it is VERY constant. I've logged it and looked at the graphs. 22 average to 35 average is a HUGE leap, period.

In Oblivion the difference is even higher since I use texture packs, the extra memory bandwidth really helps.

I can't think of a single game that I play where the 9800GTX wasn't 30% faster or more on average than any of the three 8800GT's I've owned.

One 8800GT would do 670 core stable, another 685, and another 715. All three were evga, and the same model number. My 9800GTX does 850 core rock stable, and has more shaders to boot. It just plain spanks all of the 8800GT's I've owned.
