Which CPU for a freshman?

Thread Starter
So I'm building a new computer for my little brother - essentially as a high school graduation present - and I was wondering: E8400, E8500, or X3110? This is mostly going to be a gaming/school computer.

The 9.5 modifier on the E8500 is tempting, but the tighter standards on the Xeon is also tempting.

I'm at a loss!

Are you going to be overclocking? If so I would go with the E8400 for sure.
