[TT] NVIDIA has a spy at Computex

COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2008 It's been discovered by the team at Techarp that NVIDIA has gone to the extent of assigning a Spy to attend Computex and catch anyone out who may be leaking specific details on its upcoming lineup of GTX 200 series graphics cards.

NVIDIA has been extremely paranoid about their GTX 200 graphics cards. They even have a spy (a Chinese bloke wearing glasses and masquerading as a journalist) patrolling the Computex exhibition halls to enforce the NVIDIA law and catch leaks from their partners. Somehow, that also includes questioning real journalists about their sources. Well, Mr. 007, you should never threaten journalists...

I am in total agreeance with the following :-

If you ask me, all this secrecy during Computex is stupid. If NVIDIA really didn't want any news leaked about the GTX 200 cards, they should either announce the damn cards before/during Computex or don't send reference cards to their partners until after Computex.

First, everyone already knows about the new cards. The leaks started way before Computex. Even if additional "secret" information was leaked during Computex, it's not as if ATI can magically pull a GTX 280-killer out of their hats.

NVIDIA, if you're making an effort to lose industry respect, you're doing a damn good job.

Why is this going low?

They are making sure that everyone is obiding by their NDA. It is their product ffs.... I hate people bashing Nvidia now just because they do anything to stop a problem in sales or the release of a product.

It seems like a "Lets bash Nvidia for nothing" month.

Then why are the cards there?

If you dont want people to see or know about the cards then dont send out any reference models.

True, Don't bring them if you don't want them to know info about them..

But Nothing wrong with trying to stop fake benchmarks and Info about next gen cards. Could make or break a cards early sales..

Guys!

Nvidia need to release something about their cards for the publicity but they are there to ensure that there is nothing they don't want being said is getting around.

Its called business. Intel are being the bullies at the moment. Trying to get Nvidia to give them SLI which would ruin Nvidia's motherboard sales whilst making Intel gain loads.

Marin, can you change the title please?

This isn't "snooping to a new" low at all. An NDA is a legal contract saying (in this case) that the board partners cannot disclose more than what Nvidia wants them to.

its funny how people always find a way to complain about the current industry leader. Is it jealousy? Whatever it is, look at the facts. They have NO obligation to tell the specs. They can wave the final product infront of your face and tell you nothing about it if they so chose. I don't think that the bulk of consumers would get upset.... I think it would build primary demand and make the consumer do the footwork to get information and get interested and excited. Basic marketing ploy..... take some classes people.

and A) they aren't bad mouthing everyone they can..... that would be apple's job. nvidia can blatantly insult intel's technology in the graphics department..... they have better tech... Its not the 'nice' thing to do... but unfortunately, business isn't always about being nice.
