It's very far from disagreement. They are the ones attacking and I'm defending/counter-attacking.
If someone came and stated they don't like what DF is about with actually knowing what they are talking about then It would be a plain discussion. I would probably state my reasons why I like the game and what not and they could do the same, Constructively.

However, when someone compared DF to a false sence of in game realism I will combat it. I will do the same with a post comparing the realism of the game to a epeen gankfest.

Carebear has nothing to do with the discussions here. Cries and complaining? Go to the news sections and post something that does not follow the guidelines to the tee. There you will see cries and complaining "TOS, TOS, OMG TOS"
Yes, I understand the rules and why they are set in place but folks around here get too carried away. And no, I have not posted something incorrectly in the forums to insite the babies. Although, I see it all too often.

Since when did defending what you believe in become cries and complaining?

I understand what you are trying to say by it being a gank fest and not everyone likes that. However, your point of gank fest = non-realism is moot.

I never said everyone wants what I want. I didn't go in threads for other games and promote DF. I made a thread solely about DF. If you don't like it move along.

You appear to be the guy that likes every thing "trendy". I assume you like everything that's on the radio and everything that has marketing companies spending lots of $$ to make $$ off you (There is absolutlely nothing wrong with that, it's just a difference in opinion)? That is all WoW and AoC are. They are games engineered to suck people in and they do a great job.

I had fun on WoW and on AoC. After playing I don't like the games for what they are but I know why they make their money.

I don't like the grinding for hours and hours just to get gear and level up only to pay G to redo my skills(Characteristics of WoW0. I don't care for combat systems that don't take much skill(AoC). I don't like games that are made for a younger audience. That's why I like DF. That's what many other people and I like.

It's funny to me that you correlate people that hate WoW and Aoc being the only ones that talk about it. Maybe you are tuned out from reality but AoC and WoW are the biggest MMO's around and since everyone knows them they are spoken about very often by the fanboys and haters alike.

I don't hate ether game. They just aren't my cup of tea.

Are you what us "Epeen Gankers!!" view as a Carebear?
You're right this is your thread about DF, and you every every right to promote the game that excites you, I just don't understand the need to bash whatever game happens to be popular at the moment. There is a difference between comparing the differences between a game and saying something like, "This game doesn't suck... like WoW." You made it a thread not solely about DF when you name dropped and dissed the 2 most popular games of the genre in your very first post.

Also, you stereotype me as being someone who falls in line to the mainstream and does what's popular. If I am a fan of a genre and 10 million people are playing one game in that genre, chances are I am going to give it a shot. I'll probably even like it. I makes no sense that I wouldn't try it. I didn't start playing WoW because it was popular, I didn't start playing AoC, because of the hype. I spent hours and hours playing Warcraft II in highschool, and I spent many nights staying up reading my Dad's various Conan magazines for years. I found an opportunity to explore these worlds in a whole new way and I took that chance. For the record, I haven't listened to the radio in months and I really don't know what's popular or whatnot. In fact, the music I listen to is far from mainstream. At least, amongst my friends. I listen to what I enjoy. Pure and simple, I don't analyze why or try and be different.

You appear to be the guy that hates whatever is popular for the sole reason it is popular.

And I would probably be considered a carebear by epeen gankers. I love PvP, but I like it on even terms. Two similarly leveled people(s) fighting with similarly equal armor and conditions. A close battle that I lose is more fun then "pwning" someone. That is one thing I hate about WoW, it has devolved into a two-shot fest where you just kill people, you don't actually fight.

I like to PvP when I want to PvP. Not when I just spent the last 20 mins fighting my way up a hill only to have some guy 10 levels higher than me kill me once I get to the top. Not when someone decides they are going to kill me repeatedly for the next hour until I decide to log.

Instead of dissing other games, why don't you explain how DF is better? Explain how its combat system is more advanced or takes more skill than AoC. Explain what benefits and consequences there are to actions in PvP compared to WoW or AoC. What prevents someone from ganking lowbies? What makes the PvP better? These are things that are going to draw real players in, not just players who want to be able to say they play a game other than WoW, so they can feel superior and raise their noses at all the MMO n00bs who play the mainstream games, and listen to the mainstream music, and wear the mainstream clothes.

You are correct, I should have left out my bias opinion of AoC and WoW on my initial post.

As for me being the counter-culture type guy, I'm actually exactly like your self in regards to the things I enjoy. I like what I like for reasons I like sometimes they are popular, sometimes they are not. However, your post struck me as the guy that likes what ever is "in" because everyone else likes it. I was wrong.

You don't sound like a carebear, but a reasonable pvper. What you are saying is your style of PvP is one aspect DF is trying to bring. They are trying to make everything based on skill, not gear or an attribute you had to grind for months to get.

DF offers a level playing field. One of the things they have promoted through development is the fact that a basic level one player has the ability to kill a highly skilled/leveled player.
Will this happen often? Probably not because the higher lvl player will most likely have higher skills and know how to utilize them for an advantage.

The combat is not meant to be a button-mashing, character balance (Like Shadow Bane, where X character beats Y character. Then Y can beat Z that can beat X) whoever-pulls-their-combo-off-first, type game. It is meant to be complex, tactical, and skill based.

I can go on and on about why I'm excited for this game but I'm not seeing a point to it from the reaction thus far.

I'd totally check this game out.. but I can't even find how / where to download it lol.

You'd think they want you to play it, so there would be an easy way to get it.

It's not out yet.

It's in development still. The beta should be out in the next couple months and then the game shortly after. I just hope it's not a flop, but I don't think it will be.
