Raid install vista x64

Thread Starter
I have never installed a raid array before in vista.
My first question would be.
How exactly do i install the raid-0 array specifically? I went into the bios and turned on raid, and selected my two drives, but what next? Also
When i try to install vista, it does not recognize either hard drive.
How do i get vista to see the raid array?

Do u see it regonize any drive? RAID 0 will combine the two drives and it may give a new name in bios or in Vista.

Download the RAID driver from your motherboard website and put them on a jump drive. When you get to the part where Vista asks you to select a hard drive to install on, there should be an option to load drivers, click on that, select you jump driver, and select the RAID driver you downloaded and Vista should load it and you should see your RAID drive and install to it.

Edit: If Vista isn't seeing any drive I am assuming that your RAID drive is set up.

Did you format the drives/create a partition on the volume? (do this in the BIOS)

You wanta STRIPED array for Raid-0

Depends on what you want. RAID 0 will combine the 2 hard drives and give you a performance boost. RAID 1 will give you redundancy at the expense you only get the space of what 1 of your hard drives is and no performance boost. You will need more hard drives for any other RAID.

If u set it up correct, it will show one drive and one drive only.

I had an Asus board before so I guess here are the steps

1. in bios, turn on the SATA RAID for slots that the drives installed. Save the bios and reboot.

2. After the bios post, u should see "Media shield" or something say press F10 to configure RAID. Then press F10 to set up ur RAID. (Select RAID 0) there should be two columns. Select the two drives u want and move it from the left column to right. (U should also choose striping and choose the block 64k or 128k) After that save and exit. (reboot)

3. go in bios and see if it shows as ONE drive. If no, u should read the manual. If it shows one drive, then reboot and u should see that drive in Vista.
