By reading this tread, I don't like the idea of your bother lapping the hs with a machine in one hand and hs on the other. He could have mess up the hs that way. Lapping takes time and a very flat surface like glass.
I'll do what the rest are saying, take it out and use a razor. Place the razor criss cross (x) corner to corner and use the flash light. If you see light going through then your brother did a bad job on the lapping and causing your cpu to heat up.
