For a GO Q6600, use Coretemp.

The AC7 should provide slightly better numbers than the stock cooler

On a quad core, the temps will vary between cores based on load and also contact with the HS. I had a thermalright ultra 120E and a Q6600 GO (the TRUE is the best currently) and my temps were about 4-8C apart on cores. Once I lapped it, the variance dropped to 1-3C between cores.
It seems all Thermalright products are OOS at Newegg. I wonder where can I get it?

Here is a pic of the TRUE after lapping, it only improved temps a couple of C at the top end but it evened the Q6600 up a fair bit

The room temperature is about 27 degrees and the 4 cores read between 62-70 degrees by Core Temp when I close the case, or 58-66 when I open the case.

Is this hot? If so, how can I improve it? Should I reseat the heatsink and buy some AS5? Or is this because the case is of bad design and therefore I need some extra fans or even change it?

Your comments are welcome. If you're also OC an Q6600, I would also like to see your core temps. Thanks
Temps for E8400 @ 3.6, same cooler and case, GA-P35-DS3L
CoreTemp and Everest adjusted TjMax 95c
load max was 57c (OCCT v2.0)

buy a tuniq tower and some AS5 seat it well and youll have a good chance at being able to turn up the clock and still be getting like 55*^_^ 70 is ridiculous.

You can't compare a 45nm dual core with a 65nm GO Quad for temps. They are in completely different classes.

The AC7 is fine for the 45nm dual cores but it doesn't scale as well with the older gen quads.

I had an E8400 for a week and with the stock cooler, the temps were manageable with modest overclocks.

That's very nice. But one thing I observed is that my VID is 1.225v, about 0.1125v higher than yours.

I had no intention for a comparison.
The issue I was addressing was temps and the differences between them.
Also, basically the same mobo.
The identical cooler and case.

btw: TjMax discussion pertains to the Q6600 also
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=179044

Thanks for clearing that up for me Robilar

Posted sarcasm above aside....

The chip VID with a Q6600 GO doesn't do much more than provide a guideline for required vcore to hit a certain number (like 3.6 for example).

to give you a frame of reference:

The two Q6600 GO's I currently have (one with 1.3 VID and one with 1.25) both can only do 3.6 on air but the higher VID chip needs 1.5 in the bios to be stable while the lower VID chip only needs 1.46 (thus giving slightly better temps). they both could likely go higher than 3.6 but there is a point of diminishing returns.
