Or even a chemical reaction between the gunk (that had saturated out of the fluid/additives) and the isopropyl alcohol that could have formed a substance that was aggressive on the acrylic.

Since for the time being these tests are going to focus on the effects of isopropyl alcohol on acrylic, I think it would be wise to also try a combination of the alcohol mixed with a small amount of additives as this would in a way simulate the effect of the alcohol being combined with the residue of the additives that saturated out and were deposited on the acrylic.

This is terrible information. Isopropyl alcohol will not damage certain kinds of acrylic, but other kinds it will. I know for a fact that the Swiftech MCRES-Micro is susceptible to isopropyl (at least on the inside), because I have destroyed one using it. Solids had precipitated on the inside of it, so I took a q-tip dabbed in 91% isopropyl alcohol and put it inside to clean off the precipitate.

How about different qualitities of water?

Sounds odd, but it might make a difference?

I live in a place that has a very high mineral and "crap-content". I won't drink it, and I certainly would not give it the cat ~ it's all filtered for us.

I don't think that any of the content of the water in my area would damage the integrity of the acrylic, but could it mar the surface in some way with a microscopic abrassive action?

Heck!... I get scratches on my panels just running my fingers accross it as my hands are somewhat calloused. The scratches are very fine, and only visible in bright light and at the proper angle of reflection.... never-the-less it is irritating.

Also, is WD-40 on the list? This is a product that I use on my hand and power tools. I get it all over myself, but am fairly careful about thoroughly washing my hands after using it.

tbh i reall couldnt tell you where to get just the top plastic for that block i emailed tt several times and they never responded. maybe they dont like me as for the micro res. i would imagine that the solvents mostly would eat away at the bonding agent and cause weakness. but from what i have read so far it seems that not the case. ill try and see if anyone i know has maybe a cracked top block. i tossed mine litterally out the window. i just subscribed to this thread so ill be back to check in.

Gom ('tis okay if I truncate your name?),

I have a Micro Res that has some gunk on the inside (water-line) that I am willing to donate to Science.

This way we would have an actual product sample....

I could do the torture here in my cave, or I could send the little blighter to you so that you can work it over...

Well, the gunk I was cleaning was precipitate that came from PT_Nuke. So you could try mixing some PT_Nuke and isopropyl alcohol and testing the solution on the MCRES. If it does nothing, I can only conclude that Swiftech has used different kinds of acrylic in the design of the MCRES-Micro.

Thread Starter
And on the seventh day God rested. I appreciate your support and input and I will reply to your posts tomorrow. I'm going to take the Big Guys advice and rest and reflect today. Usually, when I feel like I've hit a brick wall the best thing for me to do is to take my mind of the topic. Hopefully, inspiration will be forthcoming. Thanks again, and keep the input coming.

PHEW! I thought I was the only one who spoiled my cat with bottled/filtered water.
