Well I have heard varying cases on rubbing alchohol+acrylic. When I clean my block tops I use it (A very small amount on a paper towel) to get any particles that have adhered to it off. A guy on the DD forums used some on an acrylic res and it cracked. I think it varies on the batch/formula's consistency tbh.

I'm back. Water might be interesting. My water has sulfur and rust. WD-40 is on the list and i use it on my tools also especially blades. No problem with the nickname, I've been getting it on TF2 anyway. Got some Oxi-clean from a friend while visiting.

Spart, I think your my spark of inspiration. You said,"acrylic res.", which I'm turning into cast acrylic resin. I might be wrong about this, let me know I'm doing research tonight, but this is different from the three types I use and may be relevant to solvent bonded acrylic. I think resin acrylic uses a solvent to become fluid to cast in a shape while the others use heat.

I'm going to try and set a time frame for completion. I need to get this done in two weeks. This is because I ran into an old flame on Facebook(actually I joined Facebook because she was asking about me) and she is coming down in two weeks. She's pretty and smart, I'm use to the pretty and stupid combination. I just can't stand stupid and the drama that goes along with it. If I want to babysit someone, I'll just have a kid.

If I missed anything let me know. I've typed this twice now, the first erase about some errant key stroke thats got me still got me mythed.

I took some pictures at the shop today of some of my modified acrylic tools and even more that I made myself because nobody had what I wanted or wanted way too much money. Hopefully it will be helpful to the modders and fabricators. I'll be starting a need thread for the pictures and placing a link Here:

as far as using nail polish remover as your acetone, you need to look at the label carefully, many nail polish removers no longer use acetone.

i think that you should use water. it could be used as your control, and use another piece of acrylic and just set it out and do nothing to it as a blank (or control what ever you wana call it)

i work in a lab and we use some heavy duty solvents such as chloroform, DMF, Iso-octane, 'octantes', as well and some other not so heavy duty ones such as ACN and, methanol. if you could get your hands on any of these it would be interesting.

you may want to consider that fact the people are suggesting solvents and primarily acids. i think it would be important to use a strong base, which can be just as reactive if not more reactive than a strong acid. I would suggest using lye, which is basically NaOH, lye is generally the active ingredient in household drain cleaner.

sorry its been so long. I've been very busy. I decided to start by doing the alcohol test again. After 12 hours soaking in 91% iso alcohol i have found crazing on all of the test pieces. It also leaves a white residue and some of the pieces that were touching have fused together. I will follow up with more testing when I get some time.

I'll give you some after pictures and will repeat this test for the before and after. I was really surprised with the results after the initial test with 50% iso.
I've also noticed white precipitate in the bottom of the glass.
