Well looks like I will be sticking with my P35

Finally Crossfire will be a good option with the 4870s!

That si the only difference i can see, which means the 4850 is just an underclocked 4870. So you should be able to just by a 4850 and overclock it?

Or are they using difference core processors? I'm confused

But either way, i really hope these take off! Seems like ATI are trying pretty damn hard this time round.

ATI has no 1024MB HD4870s on the drawing boards, but is more than willing to help its vendors create them.

AMD should be happy if HD4870 manages to compete againsts the Nvidia 260
The 260 will be priced at $450 and the HD4870 will be priced at $280, the 260 has a 10-15% lead on the HD4870, do you really want to buy it?

No, it's the same voltage, just a slower GPU that has been slightly crippled.

The problem is that all these steam processors need to be constantly fed with data. If they can avoid staving them of data then ATI might have some WIN on their hands Also ATI shouldn't have much of a problem with AA now since on ATI cards AA is handled by steam processors and not ROPs like on Nvidia cards. Also if AMD can integrate CUDA onto their current cards (if the FUD was right) they might grab some of the high performance computer market.
All AA is done by TMUs, whether it's on NVidia cards or ATI, the HD3/2k series had 16 TMUs, the HD4 will have twice that. NVidia still leads with like 54 or something like that. ATI has their own programming language for their GPUs, CUDA will not be implemented any time soon. It's annoying to code for and you need a quad at 4Ghz to use even 75% of a single RV670xt.

Wow. Epic fail on the writing.
First, FLOPS = Floating Point Operations Per SECOND.

"Each shader shader unit is capable of 2 FLOPS, and since we now have 800 units, this means that Radeon HD 4850 with its 625MHz will hit exactly 1TFLOPS."

Wow, a whopping 1600 operations per second? Or would it be:
2 FlO/(unit*cycle*sec) * 800 unit * 6.25e8 cycle/sec = 1 trillion Fl-ops/sec^2 ?
Would that be some sort of acceleration?

We'd have to write it as: "each stream processor can do two FLOPC, or Floating Point Operations Per Cycle." Only then would it be:
2 FlO/(unit*cycle) * 800 unit * 6.25e8 cycle/sec = 1 Tera-FlO/sec (Tera-FLOPS)

Does this mean we are beckoning in a new era of hunchbacked teens going around talking about how many "floppsies" their GP units can do? Anyways, I'm all for more 15 year old kids pretending to be news writers.

No AA is done by ROPs on Nvidia cards and Steam Processors on ATI cards. AF is done by the TMUs. And actually I have heard that AF is the problem and not actually the AA hence the double of TMUs.

Bingo.
Nvidia AA = ROP
ATI AA = Shaders

As for AF/AA, the ATi cards actually take less of a performance hit from turning on AA than Nvidia cards do. This is commonly overlooked because reviewers tend to turn up the AA and AF at the same time, and AF is the weak spot for RV6xx. It's unfortunate because I think AF gives a much better IQ benefit than AA, and I'm hoping they managed to fix this in RV770. If anyone wants some actual numbers regarding this, check out this site.

Then what the hell do TMUs do if I might ask?
