is this an ok system?

Thread Starter
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 or Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
Cooling: Scythe Katana Heatsink & CPU Fan
Power Supply: Quiet Coolermaster 650W Dual 12v Rail PSU
Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DS3L
Memory: 4x1GB Corsair 800Mhz PC6400 DDR2 Ram
Graphics: 512MB nVidia 8800GTS
Sound: Creative Audigy SE 7.1
Hard Drive: 2x250GB SATA 7200RPM
Case: Galaxy Black ATX Midi Tower

I'm pretty new to computers as you can probably tell

I wonder whether goin with 1 500GB harddrive would be better than goin with 2 seperate 250GB ones

also, anythin you would suggest to improve it would be much appreciated

ps: is the q9450 overclockable as i might want to in the future and i dnt wanna not be able 2 if ya get what i mean

looks good, i would say get a tuniq tower, TRUE, or vendetta 2 instead of the scythe cooler.

i don't think that motherboard has raid so just get the 500gb hard drive. if you get a motherboard with raid the 2x250gb drives will outperform the single 250 though.

if you happen to get the Q9450 I wouldnt get that Gigabyte P35-DS3L for it. I have a Q9450 and had it on that same board it didnt OC' well at all. I couldnt even get it stable @ 3.2. It was a dissapoint so I got this board for it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136043
and here are my results http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=372139. The Gigabyte board is great for dual cores and the 65nm quads not so good with the 45nm quads. The ocz Vendetta 2 is really good I have it on my Q9450 with scythe slipstream 110cfm

I'll second the notion to get a TRUE.

ive been hearing good things lately about the Vendetta 2 and its cheaper than a TRUE and just as good

I'd go with a Q6700 (10 x Multi, better for overclocking) and the DS3L also 2 x 2GB G.Skill would be nice and its a good price

if you plan on getting 4gb of memory you may want to look into a 2x2gb sticks instead of 4x1gb sticks. Some people have problems OCing with 4x1 sticks in there board it puts extra strain on the memory control and it can effect your OC.

Yeah, When I had my Q6600 on a DS3L, I couldn't get it to put out anything over 400FSB to save it's life. And that paired with a Q9450's 8x multiplier will limit your overclock to about 3.2Ghz.

When you put two 250 hd's in raid 0 you get 500gb. Unfortunately your mobo doesnt support raid so unless you get a raid card you wont have the option
