is this an ok system? - Page 2

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 or Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 -i would go with either a 8400 or a 6700. IMO 8500 and 9450 is to expensive for the performance difference.
Cooling: Scythe Katana Heatsink & CPU Fan - i hear bad things about the katana go with a nice tuniq tower or for a little more a true.
Power Supply: Quiet Coolermaster 650W Dual 12v Rail PSU -go with a corsair 750w only 100 bucks on buy.com great psu
Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DS3L -good board but at your prices i would upgrade to the new p45 that just came out heres a link to the egg, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...131297&Tpk=p45 $210
Memory: 4x1GB Corsair 800Mhz PC6400 DDR2 Ram -go with a 2x2gb kit of 1066 dominator heres a link, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145197 $120
Graphics: 512MB nVidia 8800GTS -looks good make sure you go EVGA on it so you can step up to a gtx260/280 if you want to when it comes out, EVGA has great customer service and warranty.
Sound: Creative Audigy SE 7.1 -go with a auzentech prelude best card out for its price right now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tech%2bprelude $170
Hard Drive: 2x250GB SATA 7200RPM -go with a single 500gb seagate 32mb and upgrade to a second one if you need to its practicaly the same price and will give you much more performance in the long run.
Case: Galaxy Black ATX Midi Tower -tower is mostly up to you as far as easthetics go but here are some really nice cases to look at, the Armor+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133056 $200 , Antec 1200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129043 $210 , Lian Li http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811112170 $320.

I wonder whether goin with 1 500GB harddrive would be better than goin with 2 seperate 250GB ones -go with a single 500 and upgrade when you have the extra cash.

ps: is the q9450 overclockable as i might want to in the future and i dnt wanna not be able 2 if ya get what i mean -the q9450 dosnt take a lot of volts safely i would go with a q6700.

If you have any questions regarding my choices thread is subed.

I just wanne add that a CoolerMaster PSU is not really quite.

I have one and I hate it, now^^
It does very well but is far from silent.
Maybe I'm just very sensitive.
But the PSU is of cause the hardest component in your PC to silence afterwards.

So better look for a bequit model.
It is really worth the cash.
Corsair is good, too - but not much better than a CoolerMaster one.

btw:
Even a 500W PSU would do more than perfect on your setup.
My current PC (Quad Core 65nm + HD3870) does take maximal 280 Watts!
Not to talk about: the efficiency factor of the PSU to calculate into....

something i havent thought about really is whether to have a 64bit vista or 32bit vista. i know i got 4gb ram an that'll only work (as well as it can) on 64bit, but i heard that its incredibly unreliable an 32bit would be better. wat u reckon?

get the 64 bit it is much better on vista than it was on xp their used to be issues with driver availability and such but most of those issues have been resolved from xp, i would deffinitly pick up the 64 bit ^_^.
