One loop or two

Thread Starter
Components watercooled:
Intel Quad core qx6700
2x 8800GTX
NB & SB of a 680i mobo

Current setup has reservoir --> pump --> 360 rad --> cpu --> 120 rad --> NB --> SB --> 240 rad --> GPU --> GPU --> reservoir

Temps (idle) for the cpu cores are 55-60 on a warm day, GPUs are 52-57 and mobo temp 41 using everest (temps are 5-8 lower on average days).
All of that is in a Lian Li343B case.
The temps are ok but I think they should be better and have been wondering whether having two loops (eg 1st= cpu and NB & SB, 2nd=GPUs) would provide better flow and produce better temps due to having fewer components to cool?

This system is my first watercooling setup so the more advice the better.

you would definetely need 2 loops for that setup.....one loop for your cpu and another loop for the 2 GTX's and MB chips... i have the same components watercooled in my sig rig and i have 2 seperate loops. just make sure you buy good rad's that can handle the heat dump from all those chips.

2 loops the 360 rad for the cpu loop and the other rads for the gpu's and chipset blocks

I would have said 2 loops

1 for CPU/ chipsets

1 for GPUs - this loop will be MUCH hotter

OR

use the 240 Rad for CPU only

360 rad for GPU's and chipsets

or trade the 120 for a 240 rad and use two 240 rads on CPU and chipsets

with that furnace of a cpu i wouldnt put anything else in the loop with it. ive never been a fan of having anything else in a cpu loop.

Me either, I like to keep the CPU on its own loop...I can see why someone might want to stick a single GPU in it save $$$, but with your components I would put the CPU on its own with the 360 and the 240 with the GPU's, they aren't as temp sensitive as the CPU...If you can get by with a good HSF on the NB I would. These are nice and heavy duty.....Swifty NB HSF
