F@H Always Screws Up

post #1 of 10

This one is kind of hard to explain, so I'm just going tot show you the output. Sometimes F@H works, and It will run for a long time. About 90% of the time however, this is what happens:

This continues forever. When I run it from the launcher I made, it does this, but when I run it manually, it runs perfectly. Why? It's not as if the launcher isn't working, I'm running the same command, and as the code shows, it is starting up.

One thing you could 'try'... I'm assuming you are running the SMP client here. Download & install the Affinity Changer ... Secondly, back off the Overclock a bit on both your CPU & RAM.

Probably not what you want to hear to get it going, but it helped me when I was having issues. I really can't be of much help with the Athlon setups either as I do not have any recent Athlon hardware.

Well, the launcher I use would be like this:

Code:
~/F@H/fah6 -smp
Ahh. I just looked at my Home folder, and it is indeed populated with F@H items. Anyway to make it so it runs exclusively out of the correct folder? Maybe
Code:
cd F@H && ./fah6 -smp
or something?

I've always just installed it in the root, never had any problems like that. Have you tried installing and running it under root user?

That's a good idea, because I despise messy home folders. I wouldn't have to deal with it in my one then.

But, when I ran it from the launcher, I'd still be running it from my home folder, not the roots, even if it was sudo, or gksu or su etc, right?

What if I linked it? I mean, if I created a link of fah6, that would lead it to the correct files, but I don't know if it would use those files, or create copies in the home folder.

I'm leaning on making a script... One that I would launch, which would cd to the proper one and run it from root, like you said. That way I could always have it at the correct location, and it would change the working directory. What do you think?

MY scripts look like this

Code:
#!/bin/sh

cd /home/username/Desktop/Folding/SMP
./fah6 -smp
That script is in the folding folder

Then the launcher on the desktop is a "right click create launcher" thats pointing to the above script
