1st Build, and learning

I'm trying to figure out what would memory would work with this motherboard and processor.

Processor: Core 2 Duo E8400
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Dynamic Energy Saver Ultra Durable II Intel Motherboard

I think this memory will work but I'm not sure
http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartsp...E4C13A5CA7304#

I started out looking at quads. Would this combination be any quicker.
Processor: Core 2 Quad Q6600
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Dynamic Energy Saver Ultra Durable II Intel Motherboard
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Tracer 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Desktop Memory Model BL12864AL1065

I've heard that the newer Core 2 Duo can be just as fast as the Core 2 Quad.

G.skill is excellent if you don't want to pay alot.

If you're spending that much on a mobo, get a ASUS P5K (the most reviewed one).

Q6600 or E7200. Your choice.

there is G.Skill as well they make some nice stuff as well. depending on what OS you will be running I would look at getting a 4 gig pair of ram if that is with in the budget for you. otherwise shoot for 2 gig pair.

2GB of RAM for XP, 4GB for 64-bit Vista.

If you get Vista, then get 4GB and get 64-bit Vista. It's pointless to use Vista with less than 4GB now.

Id say go with this ram.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231172

a core 2 duo will get higher clocks than a quad in general but may not have the processing power that a quad has. people that use quads general run photoshop, encode music or video, and in general run cpu intensive tasks.
