Here's my 8800 Nvidia dilemma/saga...

Well I bought my original EVGA 8800GTS 640mb back in November 2006...since then two of the EVGA replacements have died, and now, so did the last one...today! I ordered a SLI mobo (750i FTW) and a Zotac 8800GTS to get a SLI rig going...when the Zotac was in transit my EVGA started fidgeting and artifacting.
Got the Zotac today, the evga was fine in the AM, so I got the SLI going and it was pretty cool, while it worked lol....then the artifacts came back, and now the EVGA card's foobared for good. I can't RMA it anymore since it's been uhhhh modified.

So here's my dilemma : Order another Zotac 8800GTS for $100? Or go for that Best Buy deal tomorrow and buy two 8800GT cards for $130 each? Yeah I know the GT is a better card and all, but the G80s no slouch (and the Zotac card OCd like a monster so far...stock is 513/792; so far I OCd it with no problem to 660/979).
My current monitor's a 24'' so I run everything at 1920x1200...I played AoC for about 5 minutes today while in SLI and it ran pretty good, 2x aa/8x AF most things maxed/shadows off, it was usually 45-50+FPS outdoors.

Here are some of my 3dmark06 results for the curious:

X3220@3.4ghz 8800GTS SLI @615/910 16071

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=7025560
x3220@3.4ghz 8800GTS@ 648/972 12379

Currently the CPU is running at 3.4ghz vs the 3.5 in my sig...apparently the 750i FTW isn't as good an overcloker as my older motherboard, the tradeoff is that I can run the CPU at a much much lower voltage, and can run my mis-matched ram at lower timings...but still too early to tell, I've only been tweaking it for a day or two.

So what do you think?

If your killing off cards like crazy, there's no coincidence. It's something that you are doing that's the problem. Kinda like those who go through xbox 360 after 360.

That being said, the 512 gts's will run much cooler then the GT's and will overclock much better. So I say ditch both options and go 2 g92 gts's. I've seen the evga one's on sale for 200.

id say, make the evga card look stock and attempt an RMA anyways. the worst that could happen is the send your already broken card back to you.

if you are going to buy two cards for sli, i would recommend getting 2 x 9600gt cards, they scale much better in sli than the 8800gt in sli.

you may also want to consider running 2 x 8800gts g92 cards in sli if you have the dough.

i would not invest so much money in dated hardware, the old gts is clearly so.

haha actually it's funny I never had a CPU/Video card die on me up until the 8800 series... the first one died as soon as I plugged it in the system, it popped at boot up and that was that...2nd one was good until that cheap thermal white tape stuff came off a heatsink and I actually had a small fire on my card ( both of those were not OCd)...the last one was the only one I've overcloked, and only in the last couple of weeks. Just bad luck I guess lol

I don't no what to say. Both cars I've boughten have been just fine. What setting is the the PCI-e express percentage set at in your bios? Ya, it may very well be just bad luck.

well that was in totally different rigs, different motherboards/cases/etc...
First one was in a Shuttle case actually

this last one died because of my "inventiveness" though, it's too embarassing so I won't go into the gory details full of fans, heatsinks, krazy glue and AS5 lol

EDIT:
well another thing, I actually bought two Duo Orbs before finding out that they are useless for a G80 series card...amybe ig I go the G92 route these can be utilized to some benefit.

Maybe your memory configuration?
6GB (mixed corsair&patriot)

Something is killing them

Oh ya, it's not the cards, I guarantee. One or 2 maybe...
