Some isses with an old AMD 64 3700+ overclock

So I'm messing around with my nForce 4 mobo, trying to overclock my really out of date AMD 64 3700+ for a few more months of usefulness when I find that all of my changes to my settings don't seem to be holding into startup. I've moved the multiplier from 11 to 10 and the bus speed from 200 to 230 in hopes of getting some boost to my clockspeed. CPU-Z doesn't register the change.

I tried upping the voltage to 1.425 from 1.4 and still nothing.

Is there some hard limiter in here that I'm not aware of that's keeping me from changing my settings?

Pic related, it's a picture of the overclocking menu.

Yep. The BIOS retains the settings when I restart, so every time it's as I last left it.

CPU-Z just doesn't seem to be seeing any difference in windows.

Here's a pic of what CPU-Z says, even after I've made those changes I said in the first post.

Other people haven't mentioned having any problems overclocking.

Set evrything defult including votage core. I get my 3700+ @ 2.8 with 1.35votls so voltage is no problem here. Lower ram speed to 166Mhz and HTT to 4x up fbs and save. Thats all. If they still dont save reset MB?

Good advice by ZealotKi11er to reset CMOS (MB).

It's strange, though, that the system doesn't seem to retain OCed settings from between passing POST and booting into Windows.

Could it be a corrupted OS installation?

That seems to have done it. Setting the HTT and lowering the ram speed fixed everything.

I've overclocked it to 2.6 for now and it's running stable. Ran a CPUStabTest for about 13 minutes and nothing went wrong. Max load is hot of course, running at around 51c, but stock it was running at about 49c under full load, so that's not bad.

Now to run memtest and all that other jazz to make sure that my ram is still fine with the reduced speed.

The max i was able to get on my Asrock Dual @ 1.4v
was FSB 245 on a 11x 2200 mulit
That was on stock cooling...

The CPU can DEF handle it and can go eve further with volt mods and aftermarket cooling!

Might be worth upgrading/degrading the BIOS of the mother board?

That's what I ended up on for my stable setting too. 245 FSB, 11x. All stock cooling

There's really no point upgrading the motherboard for this chipset. I'm only overclocking it to get some extra usability until I make a major upgrade to this generation of chips. I'm just waiting until I move to see what my budget will be down in Florida.

New cooling might not be a bad idea though, since I can bring that over to my next computer when I upgrade.
